Problem building/rebuilding a map.

Postby Xciles » Sun Jul 31, 2011 6:52 pm

Hello there,

I started to play around a bit with the Editor and it's working out pretty ok. So I wanted to recreate a renegade map, since I was getting a lot of joy from it and I really don't know if someone is currently making it or w/e but I just wanted to give it a try with Mesa. I created the basic layout, placed the buildings on their spots, placed some lights and clicked build/build lights.

After 30 secs or so windows said that UT3 has crashed and it closes the editor, not the 'program-is-not-responding' thing. So I created a new map, putted all the buildings in it and UT3 crashed, after that one building at a time and that went fine. Until I got to the GDI power plant (new and rec) and UT3 started crashing again. I now have a map with every building on it except the GDI power plant... (Although when I move these buildings around it still crashes :S)

Also tried to 'build' a copy of Hourglass and same story. Crash after a few minutes. Same story.

So am I doing something wrong? Since I really don't know what any more... I'm having a lot of fun making the map or just playing around with the editor, but this is starting to bother me quite a bit...
Or shouldn't I have to build "that much"? Though than I have no correct lights :S :( ...

I'm using a fresh installation of UT3, Renegade-X and Windows. My pc is quite ok (I guess, i7-930 6gb ram), though the editor likes the ram..
Also what I did:
- Created a new map
- Saved the map
- new terrain (120x120) and new skylight
- Placed all the buildings on it
- Build

A 60x100 map does build (not with the pp). Does that mean, since the editor is using 80-95% ram, that I don't have enough ram for the editor to use?

Another thing, the editor seems to always crash at 3.7gb of ram. With no other program running it has 20% more ram it could use, and 1% with other programs running.

Thanks for any help... I'm kinda lost right now what the problem can be. I'll just don't build for now ;)

right the UT3 editor is a mass of bugs and as the Renx editor is the same editor it is no different .. i will crash all the time ... as for the GDI PP i have not had that problem it might be that you are trying to go too fast as that always makes the editor crash with me :(

what is your GPU if you are using SLI the editor will crash more offend as it dose not support SLI, ya ram is more than fine i only use 4 GB and i can use the editor with no probs.

120x120 is a bit big as you can always add to your terrain later if you need too

i found that the auto update can make the editor crash somethins but it can be a god sent if you crash and you forgot to save your self ...

...

what map are you trying to remake BTW ?
if you are having problems placing the GDI PP you can leave it out and ask some elese to add it in that dose not have crashing issues ... i would be glad to doo it if and when i got the time
Im not mad, Im mentally insane

Thanks for the reply.
Hmm, yeah I got a lot of crashes already so I'm saving quite a lot now, since I don't want to lose anything...
I'm using Crossfire, might be a problem?

Yeah I got it down to 88x88 ish, didn't really know how big it would become so I just made it 120x120 and resize it after.
If the Power Plant gives more errors I'll just leave it out :) .
And I'm 'working' on Mesa just to get to know the editor better etc and because it's such a great map :P.

Thanks again!
