So you've got yourself a copy of Unreal Tournament 3. Great, but how do you install Renegade X? Some people say the installation process is quite hard, but some say it's pretty straight forward. Anyway, in this tutorial I'm going to explain how you can install Renegade X with different versions of UT3 (Normal CD version and Steam version).
First we're going to download the necessary files.
- Unreal Tournament 3 Patch. -> http://ut3.game-maps.net/index.php?act=view&id=1455
- Renegade X 0.55. -> http://www.renegade-x.com/releases/RenegadeX_Beta_v055.exe
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 -> https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325fd-ae52-4e35-b531-508d977d32a6&displaylang=en
I'm going to assume you've already installed UT3. When you're done installing UT3 run the patch installer (http://ut3.game-maps.net/index.php?act=view&id=1455). The installation will prompt you for the location of your UT3 installation.
The normal version (installed by CD or downloaded)
If I recall correctly the patch installer sets the correct path to your UT3 installation automatically. But if you're unsure if it's the right path, check if it looks something like this.
C:\Program Files\Unreal Tournament 3\
Select this folder
The Steam version
The Steam version requires a bit more searching. You can find the UT3 folder right here.
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\unreal tournament 3\
Of course the path can be a bit different comparing to the path above, but most of the path should be the same. Confirm that this is the right path.
We've updated Unreal Tournament to the latest patch now. Now we're going to install Renegade X 0.55 (http://www.renegade-x.com/releases/RenegadeX_Beta_v055.exe). Make sure you've deleted earlier versions of Renegade X by deleting the Renegade folder which you can find in Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\.
Install Renegade X in Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\Renegade after you're done installing Renegade X try to run the server client (there's a shortcut on your desktop). If that runs without any problems you're done installing Renegade X.
If you get an error saying that you need the .NET Framework, keep reading. Click the .NET Framework installer (https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325fd-ae52-4e35-b531-508d977d32a6&displaylang=en) and follow the steps. After installing the framework try running the server client again. It should run without any problems now.
If you continue to experience problems, reply to this topic.
(Note: I did not test the installation with a Steam version, so if you can't get it to work leave a reply aswell. If you managed to install Renegade X with a Steam version of UT3, please tell me if I wrote it down correctly or not. Thanks in advance!)
Hope this helped!
